January 1979 - Began studying Shorin Ryu Karate-do and Shudokan Karate-do at The University of Michigan Shorin Ryu Karate-do Club (an affiliate of the Asian Martial Arts Studio)
October 1979 - Joined the Asian Martial Arts Studio
September 1980 - Began studying Aikido at the Asian Martial Arts Studio
January 1983 - Began studying Hung Gar Kung Fu at Asian Martial Arts Studio
August 1985 - Promoted to Shodan (1st degree black belt) in Shorin Ryu Karate-do and Shudokan Karate-do
April 1988 - Promoted to Nidan (2nd degree black belt) in Shorin Ryu Karate-do and Shudokan Karate-do
July 1990 - Promoted to Sankyu in Aikido
September 1990 - Promoted to Nidan in Karate-do by the International Martial Arts Federation
June 1993 - Promoted to Sandan (3rd degree black belt)  in Shorin Ryu Karate-do and Shudokan Karate-do
September 1993 - Began studying Yang-style T’ai Chi Ch’uan with Sifu Herb Goldberg
January 1994 - Promoted to Sandan in Karate-do by the International Martial Arts Federation
December 2002 - Promoted to Yondan (4th degree black belt) in Shorin Ryu Karate-do and Shudokan Karate-do
January 2006 - Resumed Hung Gar Kung Fu training with Sifu James Olzmann
April 2009 - Promoted to Godan (5th degree black belt) in Shorin Ryu Karate-do and Shudokan Karate-do
February 2013 - Promoted to Rhokodan (6th degree black belt) in Shorin Ryu Karate-do and Shudokan Karate-do

Awards

Awarded the title of Sensei by the American Shudokan Association (now known as the Shudokan Martial Arts Association). This title means “Instructor”.
Admitted to the Order of the Red Sun Lion of the Asian Martial Arts Studio. This Order is for individuals who have “valorously promulgated Asian Martial Arts and Ways.”

Author of the book Karate-do Foundations which illustrates and explains the fundamental principles, techniques, drills and kata of Okinawan Karate-do. Karate-do Foundations was published by Masters Press in 1995.  The Second Edition was published in 2011.
