In 1996, we had an opportunity to train with
Grandmaster Eizo Shimabukuro, 10th-degree blackbelt and head of the Shobayashi
Shorin Ryu style, in Miami, Florida. This was the first time that
Mr. Moeller and his students had ever met Master Shimabukuro. Master
Shimabukuro taught five days of intensive seminars and covered 25 of the
kata in the system. From left to right, it shows Mark Snepp, Mark
Moeller, Eizo Shimabukuro, Eiko Shimabukuro (Master Shimabukuro oldest
son and an 8th-degree blackbelt), Edilene Chaves, Claudio Chaves, and Kent
Watkins standing, with Julia Scodeller, Jerry Penson, and Chip Abernathy
sitting in seiza position.
