Shomen Area

The Shomen Area refers to the place set aside in traditional dojos to show respect for the masters that have gone before us.  Students bow in the direction of the Shomen Area when entering the dojo and during the opening and closing of each class.  Displayed in the Shomen Area are portraits of the deceased masters of Okinawan Karate-do.  When we bow to the Shomen Area, we are showing respect for these masters to honor their devotion to martial arts, to keep their memories alive, and to reflect upon their teachings.
